– Your Right to Be
MSMNPA wishes each and everyone a HAPPY PRIDE '04!
We extend a special shout-out to those at CHAP Groups -
OECS, Friends for Life – T&T, J-FLAG – Jamaica, UGLAAB – Barbados,
Unified Society – St Maarten and developing Organisations in Guyana,
Suriname and other countries.

We chose to identify Solidarity and Freedom in conjunction with OUT! – a Day in the Life of…………., to promote a greater regional sense of well being and empowerment.
Through your Testimonials this edition identifies that we do exist and are here to stand up and be accountable for ourselves and communities. This exercise demonstrates some truth in the adage –“That which you are seeking …is also seeking you.” No matter whether your circumstance is good or bad, you have A RIGHT TO BE!! And remember Pride exists all year long by our positive actions to assist and support everyone who are a part of our special communities. Many thanks to all our writers and those who assisted in making this Voice a reality.

In addition we were extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to meet with Godfrey Sealey during his visit here in T&T. Most of us know of him as he served as one of the first MSM Champions in our region in the 1990s. Without his endeavours most of us would not be here to manage the work we are doing to mobilise our communities into action. Godfrey is a shining example of no matter what your circumstance or status is: “We all have a rightful place in our society”. Godfrey continues to dream and one of his present goals is to return to the Caribbean, armed with a stronger conviction and purpose. As a result, Friends for Life and MSMNPA are developing strategies to have his skills and services incorporated into their national programmes.

Being a part of the Administration Team who first began the Chatroom Programmes in Trinidad and am presently introducing this programme to specific countries in our region, I thought it would be useful to publish guidelines concerning Chatroom Administration, Management and Best Practises. We do this to assist you in the development and monitoring of your Chatrooms. These guidelines are not written in stone; they are published as a reference and can be adapted to your needs. I can be contacted by anyone who would like more information in this area.

Finally, MSMNPA and the Caribbean Drug Research Institute have partnered to conduct several mapping exercises. The first is the Caribbean's Men's Study published in this edition. The information you provide us by completing and returning this survey will enable us to develop MSM Programmes and Workshops (in your country and online in the future) - for you – our readers. We officially thank CDRI for this possibility and provision of the Cash incentive offered to one lucky MSM individual.
