Guidelines for Women in General
Unfortunately many women have to take an assertive role when it comes to safe sex or the risk of unwanted pregnancy. Fortunately condoms are not only made for men, there are female condoms available such as Femidom, to ensure that women can take their own precautions and safeguard their health and body against HIV, AIDS, STIs and pregnancy.
How to Insert a Female Condom
Open package by tearing along one edge. Tearing down the middle of the package increases the risk of tearing the condom. If the condom does tear when the package is opened, discard the condom and start again with a new one.
Remove the Condom from the Package
Remove the condom from the package. Rub it between two fingers to evenly distribute the lubricant inside the condom. If you need extra lubricant, place a few drops of water soluble lubricant inside the condom and again rub between your fingers to distribute the lubricant.
Insert the Condom
Squeeze the inner ring (closed end) of the condom between your thumb and middle finger. Using your index finger, push the condom all the way into your vagina. Insert it as far as it will go until you can't feel it any longer.
Position it properly
The ring at the open end should remain outside the vagina, resting against the labia (the outer lips of the vagina). Make certain the condom is not twisted.
During Intercourse
Remove and insert a new female condom if:
- the condom tears
- the outer ring is pushed inside
- the penis enters the vagina outside of the condom
- the condom bunches or twists inside the vagina
- you have sex again
During intercourse, the condom's outer ring must be held in place to prevent the condom from slipping into the vagina. The penis must be guided into the condom to prevent the penis sliding between the condom and the vaginal wall.
After Intercourse
After the man ejaculates, remove the condom immediately. While lying down to prevent spillage, twist the female condom near the ring that is resting against the labia. Remove the condom being careful not to spill any of the contents. Discard. Never reuse a female condom.
